Games should be for everyone. There’s something universally wonderful about popping pigs, solving puzzles, and taking a well-deserved break to play. That is why we are thrilled to announce that Rovio is joining forces once again with SpecialEffect for One Special Day 2026!

This year, both Angry Birds 2 and Angry Birds Dream Blast are participating in the annual event on Friday, October 2nd. During this one day, all UK proceeds from these two games will be donated to SpecialEffect, raising vital funds to make gaming accessible for players with physical disabilities.

Organized by the UK charity SpecialEffect, One Special Day brings together game studios, developers, and players from across the industry to level the playing field. SpecialEffect’s team of specialists works directly with individuals to create bespoke control setups, adapted hardware, and customized software. By tailoring tech to each person’s specific physical needs, they ensure that physical disabilities don’t stand in the way of enjoying video games.

Real Impact for Real Players

The work SpecialEffect does goes far beyond the hardware, it’s about connection, fun, and independence.

For gamers like Rodney, who spent years struggling to find comfortable ways to play due to restricted movement in his left hand, finding SpecialEffect changed everything. With just six tailored pieces of equipment, a whole new avenue of fun and inclusion was opened up, allowing him to easily join in on games with family and friends.

For Sasha, having a tailored setup opened up a whole new world. “Gaming is an expression of freedom and release, and you can be whoever you want,” she says. Thanks to an Xbox Adaptive Controller setup with customized buttons and joysticks, she can play alongside friends and build connections around the globe. There’s more to it than taking on the role of a superhero or a spy, says Sasha “It’s not just the escapism element of it – the social aspect that it brings, a lot of people don’t realise how great that can be because you can speak to people all over the world”.

Hearing stories like Sasha’s and Rodney’s reminds us why accessible gaming is so important, and why Rovio is honored to support SpecialEffect’s mission year after year.
