Rovio seems like the right fit for you and you want to apply for a role – what next? Let’s start with your CV! Your CV is your first chance to show us who you are, make it count! Here are some tips to help you prepare a strong CV, no matter your background or the role you’re applying for:
Tailor your CV to the role
Highlight the experience, skills and qualifications that are most relevant. Use real examples and data where possible to back up your impact, whether that’s launching a successful campaign, improving a process, or building a product.
Our hiring teams review every application thoroughly. Focus on showcasing your genuine skills and relevant experience. While keywords are important, adding those that do not accurately reflect your background will not help your application stand out.
Keep it clear and concise
A longer CV doesn’t mean a stronger one. Stick to what matters, we’re looking for quality, not quantity.
Go beyond the technical
Don’t just list tools or skills – tell us about the projects you’ve worked on, your role within the team, the scale, and the results. We’re interested in what you did and how it made a difference.
New to the working world? That’s okay
If you’re a recent graduate or have limited experience, include academic projects, internships, or personal work that show your passion, curiosity and potential.
Cover letters – optional but welcomed
They’re not required and won’t always be reviewed, but they can help add a personal touch. If you include one, use it to tell us a bit about yourself and why this role excites you.
Make it easy to read
Use a simple layout, clear headings and consistent formatting. Avoid overly designed CVs unless you’re applying for a highly visual role – and even then, clarity wins. To minimize bias in the evaluation and allow your experience to speak for itself, we recommend that you do not include a photograph on your CV.
Include links where relevant
Whether it’s your portfolio, GitHub, LinkedIn, or a personal website, show us more of your work (as long as it’s relevant and up to date).
Add your phone number to your CV
Don’t worry, we won’t call you unexpectedly. But in case of any connectivity issues during the interview, it helps us stay in touch and continue the conversation smoothly. It can also help us reach you faster if needed.
Review your work
Small details matter. Spelling mistakes or formatting issues can distract from your great experience, so double-check before hitting send.
Once you’ve applied, our Talent Acquisition team will carefully review your application. If your experience and profile match what we’re looking for, we’ll be in touch to move you forward in the interview process. If not, you’ll still hear from us, we’ll always let you know the outcome either way.
Our recruitment process is designed to build a foundation of trust and collaboration from the very beginning. We believe in fostering a culture where each team member can master their craft and contribute to creating extraordinary gaming experiences. Our tailored recruitment approach ensures that potential hires not only possess the necessary skills but also share our values and culture. By meeting various team members and engaging in comprehensive interviews, you gain a clear understanding of what it’s like to work here.
We embrace innovation and have established a dedicated AI Strategy to guide our use of emerging technologies. Within our Talent Acquisition (TA) team, we use AI to streamline administrative tasks and to enhance efficiency. For transparency, we currently apply AI in two specific areas: 1. We use Generative AI for creative and operational support. This usage is strictly internal and is not linked to your individual application or candidacy. 2. We may use AI-driven tools to help identify potential alignments between your unique skills and our open roles.
While technology helps us stay efficient, we believe hiring is a deeply human endeavor. Every single application at Rovio is reviewed and screened by a member of our Talent Acquisition team. Your journey with us is guided by people.
We want your interview experience with Rovio to be as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here are a few things to keep in mind before your interviews:
→ Interviews are usually remote
Most of our interviews happen via Google Meet. Make sure you’re in a quiet space with a stable internet connection, your camera is working, and you’re comfortable. If you need any accommodations to feel your best during the conversation, just let us know in advance, we’re here to support you. And if you’d like to blur or change your background with a camera plug-in, that’s completely fine!
→ Sometimes, you might be invited onsite
If you and your interviewer are based in one of our main locations, we may invite you to meet us in person in one of our studios. Let us know your preference and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
→ Dress comfortably, be yourself
We’re a gaming company with a casual work culture, so there’s absolutely no need to wear a suit. We just ask that you’re presentable, but more importantly, be yourself.
→ We’re here to support you
Our Talent team is happy to provide all the information you need ahead of your interviews. If you have any questions or special requests, such as additional breaks in an interview, written guidelines, or sensory accommodations, feel free to reach out to [email protected], and we’ll do our best to assist.
→ There’s always time for your questions
Interviewers aim to leave about 10 minutes at the end for your questions. Be ready to ask about the team, the role, the company culture or the project you’d be working on; it’s a great way to show your interest and get valuable insights. If you have questions about compensation, benefits, or anything related to the interview process itself, it’s best to discuss those directly with your Talent Partner, who’ll be happy to help.
Your experience, your story! We understand that behavioral or team-fit interviews can sometimes feel a bit vague – but they’re actually one of the best ways for us to understand how you work, collaborate, and approach different situations. Beyond your technical or hands-on skills, we want to learn about your mindset, your values, and how you interact with others.
In this section, you’ll find guidance on what to expect and how to prepare for this part of the process, so you can approach the conversation with confidence and clarity.
→ Read the job ad carefully
The job ad gives you valuable insight into what we’re looking for – including the key behaviours, ways of working and values we expect in the role. Use it as a guide to reflect on your own experience and how it aligns.
→ Focus on what’s relevant
It’s easy to go off track when sharing past experiences. Try to keep your answers focused and meaningful. This part of the interview isn’t about talking more, but about saying what really matters.
→ Use the STAR method
Structure your answers using the STAR method:
Situation – set the context, Task – explain your responsibility or goal, Action – describe what you did, Result – share the outcome and learnings. This helps you tell clear, structured stories and ensures you’re covering the most important parts.
→ Take your time
There’s no rush, we don’t expect instant answers. It’s perfectly fine to pause, gather your thoughts and respond when you’re ready. Clear thinking is more valuable than fast talking. If you did not understand the question fully, ask the interviewer to rephrase. If you have two examples you cannot pick from, ask the interview team which one they prefer discussing first so you can focus on the most relevant one.
→ Be honest and authentic
We’re not looking for ‘perfect’ answers, we’re more interested in your real experiences and how you approach challenges, work with others, and grow from feedback. Be yourself and don’t be afraid to show personality.
→ Expect questions about collaboration
Teamwork is a big part of how we work at Rovio. You might be asked how you work with others, handle disagreements, or contribute to a shared goal. Think of a few examples in advance that show your approach.
→ Ask questions too
This is a two-way conversation. Feel free to ask about the team dynamic, the culture or how success is measured in the role. We love when candidates are curious!
Hands-on time! Some of our interview processes may include a technical assignment, case study, or art test. These are designed to give us a better sense of your hands-on skills and how you approach real-life challenges relevant to the role. It’s not just about the final result, we’re also interested in how you think, solve problems and communicate your ideas. Below, you’ll find some tips to help you prepare and showcase your strengths in the best possible way.
💡 Read the instructions carefully
Every assignment comes with a set of instructions, take the time to read them thoroughly (twice if needed!). Make sure you understand the purpose and expectations. We embrace AI in our work and understand these tools are increasingly integrated into modern workflows. We will provide instructions on how these tools may be utilized within the guidelines. If anything’s unclear, don’t hesitate to reach out to your Talent Partner, we’re here to help before you dive in.
💡 We’re flexible with deadlines
Most assignments come with a suggested deadline, but we understand that life gets busy. If you need more time, just let us know, we’re happy to accommodate wherever possible.
💡 Plan before you start
Before jumping into the execution, take a moment to think through your approach and structure. Whether it’s a coding test, a case study, or an art assignment, a clear and organized presentation can really make your work shine.
💡 Quality over quantity
We’re not looking for lengthy or overly detailed assignments, focus on what’s most relevant. It’s better to submit a clear, well-thought-out solution than to try to cover too much.
💡 Time investment matters
We value your time and understand you’ve got other commitments. Unless stated otherwise, we don’t expect you to spend more than 4-8 hours on an assignment. You’re not working at Rovio (yet!), and your free time is important too.
💡 Mind the format
We usually specify the format we’d like to receive the assignment in. If anything’s unclear or if you have a preferred way of sharing your work, check in with your Talent Partner and they’ll make sure you have the right info.
As you are moving to the final round or just after that, we usually like to conduct a reference check and speak to a few people you have worked with in the past to confirm and verify what we have learned about you during the interview process. We will always ask for your consent before calling anyone and will respect your confidentiality. If you know people at Rovio or have past colleagues here, we might ask to speak to them earlier in the process.
Once you’ve completed the final interview, your Talent Partner will be working behind the scenes to gather feedback from everyone involved and align on the next steps with the Hiring Manager. This coordination can take a little time, so we appreciate your patience. While every process is different, you can usually expect to hear from us within 24–48 hours after your last interview, even if it’s just to let you know we’re still finalizing things.
