Rovio subsidiary flocks to Barcelona to bring cloud gaming mainstream

This week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Rovio subsidiary Hatch is showcasing the advantages of cloud gaming for mobile with an early preview of the Hatch multiplayer edition of the original Angry Birds. In the Qualcomm area at MWC (Hall 3, Booth #3E10), visitors can try out Hatch, play exclusive PVP battles in the world’s most downloaded mobile game franchise, and compete for the highest scores in a special MWC tournament.

What is cloud gaming? With Hatch’s tech, it means you can stream games as you would movies or music – freeing up precious space on your phone and allowing developers to make even bigger, more full-featured entertainment experiences on mobile. Hatch’s cloud gaming service, currently out in beta in 16 countries, features premium games from more than 100 developers and publishers – not just Rovio – including majors like Bandai Namco (PAC-MAN CE DX) and Ubisoft (Rayman Fiesta Run) and beloved indies like Mango Protocol (MechaNika) and Butterscotch Shenanigans (Crashlands).

The Angry Birds demo at MWC is part of Hatch’s broader collaboration with Qualcomm to bring cloud gaming mainstream. Servers based on Qualcomm Centriq™ 2400 – the world’s first 10nm server processor – help deliver superior cost efficiency and performance for Hatch’s on-demand, real-time synchronous multiplayer experiences at 60 fps.
