Imagine if you couldn’t read these blog posts. Or your text messages. Or Tweets. Or the bus timetable. This is the reality for over 774 million people in the world - but now you can help!
International Literacy Day was on September 8th, and for the next two weeks when you log in to Angry Birds Epic, you can buy a Good Deeds coin, and help promote literacy! Rovio is collaborating with a global organization called Room to Read, which aims to change the lives of millions of children in Asia and Africa by promoting literacy and gender equality. The campaign runs from September 15th-28th, the price of the coins is $3.99 and for every good deeds bundle purchased, Rovio will give a minimum of $1.40 to Room to Read to support their ongoing efforts.
We interviewed Room to Read, here’s what they have to say about their current campaign:
''Destination Literacy was launched earlier this year with the goal of reaching Room to Read’s 10 millionth child by the end of 2015. We are inviting all those that want to change the world but are daunted by the massive challenges it faces to take a simple action—support education because EDUCATION CHANGES EVERYTHING. We know that education is one of the few things we can do that helps change the world in nearly every sector: Hunger & Nutrition, Healthcare, Gender Equality, Violence Prevention, Economic Development, and the Environmental Protection. Yet 250 million children are unable to read a single sentence. And when a child reaches the third grade without basic literacy skills, it becomes virtually impossible for him or her to catch up. That’s why supporting education can’t wait! ''We invite all those who want be a part of a global solution focused on educating children to join us!
So what are you waiting for - go buy a Good Deeds coin, and battle some Pigs while you’re at it!
