Ready to RETRY, RETRY, RETRY? Rovio LVL11’s first game is out now globally!http://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/565/ready-to-retry-retry-retry-rovio-lvl11%e2%80%99s-first-game-is-out-now-globallyRETRY, the first game from Rovio’s LVL11 publishing arm hits the global market - get ready to fly, and retry, and retry again!

Espoo, Finland -- October 22nd, 2014 -- Get ready for an 8-bit flying challenge in RETRY, the first global release by Rovio Entertainment’s experimental publishing arm, Rovio LVL11. RETRY was soft launched earlier this year in selected countries, and today the retro-style flying game is released in the Apple App Store and Google Play around the world. In RETRY the player hops into the cockpit of a small airplane, aiming to navigate through side-scrolling levels before the next inevitable crash.

“RETRY is a tribute to the video games of the 80s a lot of us grew up with”, said Jami Laes, Executive Vice President of Games, Rovio Entertainment. “The fun 8-bit aesthetics, chiptune music, the difficulty curve that hit you like a two-by-four - and you still persisted and beat those levels. It was all the sweeter for the challenge!”

Rovio LVL11 is the publishing arm announced earlier this year to release Rovio’s experimental projects.

“Rovio LVL11 are ‘the guys next door to the guys making Angry Birds’. We have at any given moment over 40 game prototypes in circulation, and some of them become a viral hit inside the company. RETRY was one of these, and it was the perfect candidate to be Rovio LVL11’s first release”, said Laes.

The RETRY soundtrack features a collection of songs inspired by 80s power anthems as well as Miami Vice aesthetics. The first single, Love Is Gonna Make Us Stronger (Theme from RETRY) by Ted Striker, is available to stream and download from Spotify, Deezer, iTunes and Google Play, with more to follow.

Rovio invites all kids in Europe to learn to codehttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/557/rovio-invites-all-kids-in-europe-to-learn-to-codeRovio partners with the European Union for EU Code Week

Espoo, Finland -- October 14th, 2014 -- At Rovio we know that when something is fun, it’s easy! This is why we’re calling on kids of all ages across Europe and around the world to join us in learning to code. And this week (October 11-17) we can do it all together – millions of kids simultaneously learning to code in a fun, creative way through the engaging power of the Angry Birds brand.

We live in a digital world where coding and creativity play a key role. Coding is a 21st Century skill that can unleash incredible amounts of creativity and problem solving. It’s the way our new reality is built, as the reality we live in includes a growing digital realm. There is nothing virtual about this digital part of our world, it is a growing and very real part of our lives. Learning to code is learning how our digital reality is built, and it’s learning how to be a builder of this new reality as opposed to being a consumer or bystander. At Rovio we believe everyone should have the opportunity to be part of this world.

Learning to code is also learning to think. The very essence of coding is based on learning to approach a problem creatively in an analytic, structured and process-based way. These same intellectual methods can be used equally well by the complex biological computers in our heads.

“At Rovio it all starts with the concept of flow. Learning happens effortlessly when you’re having so much fun you don’t even notice. The Rovio Fun Learning offering for the EU Code Week makes coding accessible and easy. The globally loved Angry Birds characters will help children and adults alike find an inviting path to the amazing world of digital creativity” said Sanna Lukander, Vice President, Rovio Fun Learning. “Kids of all ages will go from simple coding to advance coding with javascripts and css in a breeze. Imagine creating your own 3D environment and learning how to program the behavior of objects within it!”

Head over to www.funlearning.com and learn to code the fun way during EU Code Week!

The second annual EU Code Week takes place from October 11-17. This year’s event brings together millions of children, teachers, entrepreneurs and policy makers in classrooms and events across Europe to learn programming and related skills. Representatives from major IT and tech companies, including Rovio, are also in attendance.

Rovio’s Brands Inspire Children to Readhttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/554/rovio%e2%80%99s-brands-inspire-children-to-read

Rovio teams up with Room to Read and Worldreader

Espoo, Finland -- October 7th, 2014 -- Rovio Entertainment announces its commitment to children’s literacy and to the joy of storytelling through partnerships with two literacy charities, Worldreader and Room to Read. Rovio’s newest flock of feisty birds, Angry Birds Stella, celebrating individual uniqueness, female heroism and empowerment, will also come alive in a series of books, The Stella Diaries.

Published by Egmont Publishing in English, the empowering Stella series will also be distributed through Worldreader’s mobile reading application for feature and low-end android phones, called Worldreader Mobile, available to children and families in more than 175 countries. The Stella Diaries inspire children to read more while exploring their own natural super powers, which include reading and studying. The Stella Diaries premiere coincides with United Nations proclaimed International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th, 2014.

“We at Rovio believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn how to read. Literacy is more than just the technical ability to interpret letters, words, and sentences. Books and storytelling give the children the keys to understanding the world they live in", says Laura Nevanlinna, Publishing Director of Rovio Books.

Rovio stands for delighting the world with engaging and fun content, and in Rovio’s Book publishing it’s also about educational inspiration. During the past 3 years, Rovio has published more than 200 Angry Birds book titles across 40 countries and in 32 languages. Rovio’s characters and the world of Angry Birds are engaging and the fan engagement shows that they also motivate kids to read.

"This year we've had fantastic opportunities to support literacy”, adds Nevanlinna. During International Literacy Day in September, Rovio launched a charity campaign within the popular game Angry Birds Epic. During those two weeks, proceeds from the game went to Room to Read, a non-profit organization working for improving literacy and gender equality in education in the developing world.

Rovio Books also celebrates female heroism with a completely new young adult series created together with a sensational new author Mintie Das; Storm Sisters. Humor, emotions, action and girl characters fight all odds in looking for their lost parents in an exciting setting of historical fiction set for the modern reader.

The All-Star Comedy Voice Cast of "Angry Birds" Is Revealed By One Billion Sling Shots: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, and Peter Dinklagehttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/551/the-all-star-comedy-voice-cast-of-angry-birds-is-revealed-by-one-billion-sling-shots-jason-sudeikis-josh-gad-danny-mcbride-bill-hader-maya-rudolph-and-peter-dinklage

ESPOO, Finland and CULVER CITY, Calif. USA, October 1, 2014 – Over the past 48 hours, fans of Angry Birds have discovered a reveal within the game: by slinging one billion birds, fans had the chance to unlock the voice cast and get a sneak peek at the new look of the characters of the Angry Birds feature film.

Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, last year’s comedy hit We're the Millers) will lead the cast as Red, a bird with a temper problem.  Josh Gad, in his first animated role since the global smash hit Frozen, plays speedy Chuck, and Danny McBride (This is the End, Eastbound & Down) portrays the volatile Bomb. Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) has joined the pork side, Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, The Maya Rudolph Show) will play Matilda, and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past) will play the legendary Mighty Eagle.

In the supporting roles, Keegan-Michael Key (Comedy Central’s Key & Peele), Kate McKinnon (Emmy nominee for Saturday Night Live), Tony Hale (Emmy winner for Veep, Arrested Development), Ike Barinholtz (Neighbors, The Mindy Project), Hannibal Buress (Broad City, Neighbors), Cristela Alonzo (ABC’s upcoming Cristela), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black), Grammy nominee and Latin music sensation Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla), who have over 30 million YouTube subscribers, will bring an extra kick to this angry flock.

John Cohen, producer of the film said, “I’m extremely proud of this cast.  Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya, and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent – these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re thrilled to have them all on board.”

Dwight Caines, president, Theatrical Marketing for Sony Pictures, said, “With two and a half billion gamers around the world, Angry Birds is one of those brands that can drive massive fan engagement.  That’s why we wanted to bring this unlock to the fans first.  Our filmmakers are cooking up a hilarious movie, and we know these fans can’t wait to see how they’re going to bring the Angry Birds’ story to life on the big screen of movie theaters.”

“We heard limbs and dialogue were all the rage in modern animation so we went all in. Not just one, but all of our characters have legs and wings! Except for the pigs, that is,” added Blanca Juti, Chief Marketing Officer of Rovio.

The upcoming movie marks Rovio’s first foray into feature films, although fans have already been introduced to the Angry Birds world with the weekly Angry Birds Toons animated series. Rovio launched the series last year through its Angry Birds game, as well as on select video-on-demand channel providers, Smart TVs, connected devices, and on select TV networks around the world. Paving the way for a full-length feature film, Angry Birds Toons has been a massive success for Rovio and has surpassed more than three billion views in its first 18 months.

Set to debut in the US on July 1, 2016, Angry Birds is directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder, and executive produced by Mikael Hed and David Maisel. The film is written by Jon Vitti. The film, which will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures, is produced by Rovio, and the Academy Award®-winning visual effects and animation company Sony Pictures Imageworks, headquartered in Vancouver, B.C., is the animation facility for the production.

University of Helsinki and Rovio Learning cooperate for playful learninghttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/543/university-of-helsinki-and-rovio-learning-cooperate-for-playful-learningEspoo, Finland -- September 16th 2014 -- Rovio Entertainment -- The University’s Playful Learning Center (PLC) researches the future of learning together with businesses. The learning research space to be opened with Rovio is the latest example of such cooperation.

The University’s Department of Teacher Education has established the Playful Learning Center (PLC), which researches playful learning together with businesses. The aim of the Center is to research and teach new learning solutions together with education experts and Finnish companies, and to enhance Finland’s status as a leading nation in education.

The opening of the Center also coincides with the establishment of the Rovio Fun Learning Research Lab, which will study learning solutions based on Rovio Learning’s philosophy of fun learning as well as the Angry Birds Playground early education project.

New partnerships

“The Playful Learning Center combines two areas of Finnish excellence, pedagogy and the technology industry. It offers new and interesting opportunities to develop learning in kindergartens, schools and different communities throughout an individual’s life,” explains Kristiina Kumpulainen, professor in pre-primary and primary education at the University of Helsinki.

"We invite all interested parties to join the cooperation. The Center enables multidisciplinary research that makes use of the University of Helsinki’s strong, internationally recognised expertise.”

Launched with Tekes funding, the Center is located on Siltavuorenpenger in Helsinki. Tekes is the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation.

Making use of the research space for learning

At the first stage, the Center will house Rovio Learning's international Rovio Fun Learning Research Lab which focuses on developing fun learning solutions. The Center and the research cooperation are a natural continuation of the work the University of Helsinki has done with Rovio Learning in researching and providing training in playful learning solutions. The teachers for the first Angry Birds Playground kindergartens in China run by 123 Education Development Ltd have been trained in collaboration by the Helsinki University’s Department of Teacher Education and Rovio Learning. Openings will take place during the Fall.

Rovio Learning is known for collaborating with a number of scientific and educational brands and institutions such as NASA, CERN, the National Geographic Society and the University of Helsinki. “Learning can be seriously fun! We are happy to cooperate with the University of Helsinki to find out more about what can be learned through the research on playful learning”, says Sanna Lukander, Vice President of Rovio Learning.

The Rovio Fun Learning Research Lab and the tools it contains offer a wide range of cooperation opportunities. Participation in the research will be opened up to groups of children and their supervisors in pre-primary and primary education, students, product developers, training specialists as well as international experts and institutions in the field.

The goal has been to provide researchers with a versatile, easy-to-use research environment which also utilises technology. The sponsor providing electronic devices is Samsung.

Own Your Superpower! Welcome to the very first Angry Birds Stella game.http://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/534/own-your-superpower-welcome-to-the-very-first-angry-birds-stella-gameEspoo, Finland -- September 4th 2014 -- Rovio Entertainment -- The first Angry Birds Stella game is here! Join Stella and her friends Willow, Dahlia, Poppy, and Luca on a quest to reclaim Stella’s scrapbook and stop power-hungry Gale from destroying Golden Island with her obsessive hunt for the mysterious Golden Egg.

Angry Birds Stella brings tons of new twists to slingshot gameplay. There’s an all-new set of characters with kick-ass superpowers, a beautiful new setting on Golden Island, and a scrapbook where players can gather their achievements and unlock variations of the characters.

“Angry Birds Stella is going to be super fun for casual players, but will also challenge the most hardened Angry Birds veterans,” said Heini Kaihu, Head of Studio, Rovio Entertainment. “The story and the world of Angry Birds Stella was hugely inspirational when designing the game, and it provided loads of great elements for the gameplay. We took great care to reflect the characters’ personalities through their superpowers, all of which require skill and practice to master. In this game Stella’s superpower is parkour, so she can leap from surface to surface. Willow’s Vortex Spin smashes through the baddies and as for the rest – well, we don’t want to spoil the surprise!”

As a brand Angry Birds Stella features daring characters, a playful and offbeat attitude, and a great sense of humor – all while dealing with real-life issues like friendship, including the occasional fall outs,” said Blanca Juti, the CMO of Rovio Entertainment. “Each character has strengths and flaws, and they are not afraid to let them show!”

Fans can experience Angry Birds Stella in games, animations, books, comics, and a broad range of consumer products. Angry Birds Stella comes with its own lineup of Hasbro’s Telepods figures which can be used for standalone play, and can also be teleported into the game as playable characters.

Angry Birds Stella is free to play and is out now on Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, BlackBerry World and NOOK Apps all across the globe.

Espoo, Finland -- June 4th 2014 -- Rovio Entertainment Ltd, the creator of Angry Birds, is excited to announce the first details about Angry Birds Stella, a whole new set of stories, characters and adventures that was teased earlier this year.

Angry Birds Stella opens up an exciting new chapter in the Angry Birds universe with a new flock of fierce friends. Stella, Poppy, Willow, Dahlia and Luca share a common love for adventure and fun, but as in the real world, their colorful personalities sometimes clash! Still, they pull together to find creative and fun solutions to their problems. There’s also Gale, a good bird gone bad, who wants to rule over the birds’ island habitat. True to the Angry Birds spirit, Stella and her friends have a playful, offbeat attitude and great sense of humor. After all, they’re best friends forever – most of the time!

Angry Birds Stella is an inclusive brand that engages everybody, but also celebrates female heroism. It's all about friendship and the struggles of six very different personalities”, said Blanca Juti, CMO of Rovio Entertainment. “The wonderful spirit of these fearless friends will shake things up across games, animations, books, consumer products and other fun content under the Angry Birds Stella brand.”

Stella and her fearless friends, each with their own awesome powers, do battle with Gale and her pig servants. With a new line of TELEPODS and other exciting gameplay features, Angry Birds Stella is going to challenge even the most experienced bird flingers!

The first season will have 13 six-minute episodes, each one an inspiring tale of adventure, heroism and friendship. Episodes will air every week on ToonsTV, and the series will also make its way to TV and VoD services worldwide.

The Las Vegas Licensing Expo takes place from June 17-19 and marks the launch of the first Angry Birds Stella consumer product lines, including Hasbro TELEPODS figures – powered by Retoy – that combine digital and physical play. There will also be plush toys, apparel, accessories and other exciting products. The first Angry Birds Stella books, offering even more insight into the story and characters, will become available from September onwards starting in selected markets.

Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were €36.5 million (2010: €3.1 million, 2011: €46.9 million, 2012: €76.8 million), and net profit after tax was  €26.9 million (2010: €3 million, 2011: €35.4 million, 2012: €55,5 million).

2013 was a year of milestones. First, Rovio rocked the video distribution industry by launching the innovative ToonsTV, its very own distribution channel. Rovio Stars, a third-party games publishing program was launched, publishing three exciting games throughout the year. There was also the opening of numerous Angry Birds attractions including six Activity Parks, located across Spain, Finland and China. Rovio Books produced over 100 fun titles in over 30 languages across more than 40 countries. Plus, Rovio Learning proudly presented Angry Birds Playground – an inspiring physical learning space combined with our breakthrough teaching philosophy.

Strengthening foundations and opening new markets

2013 was a year of solid results, underpinned by increased investments to drive the transition to the free-to-play economy as well as to strengthen the company’s entertainment foundations. Towards the end of the year Rovio launched Angry Birds Star Wars II, which was acclaimed by fans worldwide. Soon after  it launched Angry Birds Go!, Rovio’s first free-to-play and non-slingshot Angry Birds game. Both launches rolled out a wide selection of top-selling consumer products, including  Hasbro TELEPODS™ and animations, while the games themselves went on to top the charts in over 150 countries.

Driven by these launches, and updates to existing games, the company's gaming revenues and gaming-related advertising revenue remained strong. The main revenue sources were paid games, free-to-play virtual goods, and advertising.

Rovio’s Consumer Products business continued to perform strongly, accounting for 47% of total revenue in 2013, and there was expansion of the Consumer Products line into the important Russian and Latin American markets. Rovio also started a compliance program aimed at having a positive impact on production processes and improving transparency.

To match the investments made during 2013, the number of Rovio employees grew from around 500 to 800.

Market and business development expectations

“Future business will, for the most part, depend on how well last year’s investments perform and how our new properties delight our audiences. We are actively investing in the company to increase our capabilities for the future, and this year will see exciting new content and services coming from all our business areas”, said Herkko Soininen CFO of Rovio.

“Angry Birds has exceeded 2 billion downloads so far, making it the most downloaded game brand ever. We’re creating long lasting business, and strongly believe our entertainment strategy will consolidate Rovio’s position as one of the world’s most beloved brands”, added Mikael Hed, Rovio’s CEO.

Rovio does not provide end user data to government surveillance agencieshttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/450/rovio-does-not-provide-end-user-data-to-government-surveillance-agenciesEspoo, Finland -- January 28th -- Rovio Entertainment Ltd, which is headquartered in Finland, does not share data, collaborate or collude with any government spy agencies such as NSA or GCHQ anywhere in the world.

There has been speculation in the media that NSA targets Angry Birds to collect end user data. The speculation is based on information from documents leaked by Edward Snowden.

The alleged surveillance may be conducted through third party advertising networks used by millions of commercial web sites and mobile applications across all industries. If advertising networks are indeed targeted, it would appear that no internet-enabled device that visits ad-enabled web sites or uses ad-enabled applications is immune to such surveillance. Rovio does not allow any third party network to use or hand over personal end-user data from Rovio’s apps.

“Our fans’ trust is the most important thing for us and we take privacy extremely seriously. We do not collaborate, collude, or share data with spy agencies anywhere in the world.  As the alleged surveillance might be happening through third party advertising networks, the most important conversation to be had is how to ensure user privacy is protected while preventing the negative impact on the whole advertising industry and the countless mobile apps that rely on ad networks”, said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment. “In order to protect our end users, we will, like all other companies using third party advertising networks, have to re-evaluate working with these networks if they are being used for spying purposes.”

Angry Birds Go! races into app stores worldwide!http://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/435/angry-birds-go-races-into-app-stores-worldwideReady, set, go! The birds and the pigs go soapbox racing in Rovio’s first blockbuster free-to-play game launched today and featuring Hasbro TELEPODS integration for all major platforms on mobile and tablet!

Espoo, Finland - December 11th -- Rovio Entertainment is proud to present Angry Birds Go! today in app stores across the world. The game is Rovio’s first major free-to-play Angry Birds title and the first time players get to see the Angry Birds world in glorious 3D as they race through Piggy Island.

In Angry Birds Go! players can jump behind the wheel of a downhill kart and race as Red, Chuck, Stella, King Pig, and other favorite characters from the Angry Birds universe. The game features well over 50 different soapbox karts and a selection of tracks ranging from canyons to speedways and stunt roads to air courses.

“Angry Birds Go! is our first major free-to-play Angry Birds game, and while we're super excited to step into this new territory, we’re also staying true to our roots,” said Jami Laes, the Executive Vice President of Games at Rovio Entertainment. “As with every previous Angry Birds game, there’s lots of free content and we have great new updates already planned – including the eagerly awaited arrival of multiplayer. Our main goal is to provide an amazing experience with more than enough content to make sure everyone has a blast. We do offer some really awesome premium content for fans who want a bit more, but we’ve designed the game so that you don’t have to pay to have a great time. The soft launch in select markets has helped us figure out what’s working well.”

There are many ways to enjoy the game with all the core gameplay in Angry Birds Go! available free of charge. Rovio has also teamed up with select partners, and these partnerships help Rovio to surprise fans with more fun and special content, such as free power-ups and exclusive karts. The first sponsors onboard at launch are State Farm, the Goldfish® Brand and Target.

Players will also have the opportunity to experience Angry Birds Go! with Hasbro’s TELEPODS digital gaming platform. Initially introduced with Rovio’s Angry Birds Star Wars II® earlier this year, the TELEPODS platform allows for a seamless integration of physical characters into the mobile gaming experience. The technology behind the TELEPODS platform allows players to “teleport” their physical Angry Birds Go! karts into the digital game using their mobile devices. With Angry Birds Go! Rovio and Hasbro are now launching a wide collection of karts, tracks, launchers and other fun toys across Hasbro’s TELEPODS and JENGA lines.

“With one million Angry Birds Star Wars TELEPODS figures sold within a month of becoming available, the TELEPODS line is one of the hottest toys for the holidays and Hasbro continues to deliver a seamless physical to digital play experience with the new Angry Birds Go! TELEPODS line,” said John Frascotti, Chief Marketing Officer, Hasbro, Inc. “Rovio has developed a fantastic new property with Angry Birds Go! and we look forward to fans enjoying the new TELEPODS line as well as the Angry Birds Go! JENGA games.”

Angry Birds Go! is out today for iOS, Android devices, Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry 10.

Rovio and Holiday Club Resorts open their largest joint outdoor Angry Birds Activity Park to datehttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/405/rovio-and-holiday-club-resorts-open-their-largest-joint-outdoor-angry-birds-activity-park-to-date

Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria -- October 29th -- Rovio Entertainment announced today the upcoming opening of Angry Birds Activity Park Gran Canaria on October 31st. Covering an area of more than 5000m2, this park is the fourth, and largest, in Rovio’s series of ventures with the leading provider of vacation travel services Holiday Club Resorts and the first to host Rovio’s new Café and Birthday services.

‘’We are really excited to bring another Angry Birds Activity Park to life; this time in Gran Canaria,” said Dan Mitchell, Rovio’s Director of Location Based Entertainment. “Gran Canaria is such a fun destination and the partnerships, teamwork, and dedication of everyone involved in this project will create another amazing experience for our fans. Featuring some all new elements, we really hope everyone, both local residents and tourists, will enjoy coming out and experiencing this together as a family.”

This new park in Gran Canaria will increase and complement the current leisure offerings on the southern side of the island. “We are all very proud of the forthcoming opening of Angry Birds Activity Park Gran Canaria. This new endeavor will certainly add value to the Puerto Rico resort area and will bring in more visitors. Apart from being a significant tourist attraction, it will also serve the local people and create new job opportunities”, says Calvin Lucock, Managing Director of Holiday Club Canarias.

“The European travel industry should concentrate more on content”, says Vesa Tengman, CEO of Holiday Club Resorts. “Too often the focus is on accommodation – of which there is already an oversupply. Active holidays are pivotal to Holiday Club. The Angry Birds Activity Parks complement our concept, which offers high quality holiday accommodation, services, and year-round activity possibilities.”

Rovio’s novel Café and Birthday services concept is a brand new addition to the existing amenities offered at Angry Birds Activity Parks, and will feature a diverse menu of fresh alternatives to quick bites as well as á la minute dishes and the possibility to organize personalized events at the venues, such as birthday parties.

‘‘Our Café and Birthday services at Angry Birds Activity Parks will offer delightful and tasty meal options for all family members as well as a variety of event planning possibilities for all occasions, adding further value to our existing range of entertainment options and allowing families to truly engage during their holidays’’, said Riikka Ahtiainen Director of Restaurants, Shops at Rovio Entertainment.

This park has been designed in collaboration with Lappset Group Ltd., a Finland-based company specialized in themed activity parks. ‘’We’re extremely excited to be part of this remarkable project and to have supplied this high-quality entity, the fourth of this kind for Holiday Club Resorts’’, said Tero Ylinenpää, Deputy CEO of Lappset Group Ltd.

Rovio Entertainment announces directors for Angry Birds moviehttp://www.rovio.com/en/news/blog/397/rovio-entertainment-announces-directors-for-angry-birds-movieEspoo, Finland, October 9, 2013 – Rovio Entertainment announced today that Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis will direct Angry Birds, the upcoming 3D CG-animated film based on Rovio’s bestselling app.  The film is being produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder and executive produced by David Maisel; the screenplay is by Jon Vitti.  The movie is slated for a July 1, 2016 release and will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures.

Reilly and Kaytis are both animation veterans, making their directorial debuts with Angry Birds. Kaytis began his career as an animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios. In his 19 years at Disney, he served as animation supervisor of Tangled and the follow-up short, Tangled Ever After.  He also conceived and oversaw the end credits sequence of Wreck-It Ralph and animated on that film; in addition, he was the supervising animator of the character Rhino in Bolt. Kaytis also animated on the upcoming film Frozen and the Oscar®-winning short, Paperman. Reilly joined Sony Pictures Animation in 2003 as a storyboard artist, contributing to the films Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. He was a director and Head of Story on several development projects at Sony Pictures Animation. Previously, Reilly was a storyboard artist on films including Spider-Man 2 and The Iron Giant.

Commenting on the announcement, Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed said: “I’m very excited that Fergal and Clay have joined us, bringing with them their vast expertise. They are two of the brightest rising talents in animation, and I’m confident we are building the right team to tell the story of Angry Birds and deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans.”

Producer John Cohen commented: "David, Catherine and I are thrilled to welcome Fergal and Clay to the Angry Birds filmmaking team. They both have an extraordinary range of talents, and we're looking forward to working with them to bring the birds and pigs to life on the big screen."

Angry Birds is one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises, starting in 2009 with the original mobile game that remains the number one paid app of all time. Angry Birds has expanded rapidly into entertainment, publishing, and licensing to become a beloved international brand.

The upcoming movie marks Rovio’s first foray into feature films, although fans have already been introduced to the Angry Birds world with the weekly Angry Birds Toons animated series. Rovio launched the series in March through its Angry Birds apps, as well as on select video-on-demand channel providers, Smart TVs, connected devices, and on select TV networks around the world. Paving the way for a full-length feature film, Angry Birds Toons has been a massive success for Rovio and has surpassed more than 1,000,000,000 views in its first seven months. In addition, Rovio successfully launched a sequel in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga in September accompanied with Hasbro’s Telepod toys. The game immediately topped app store charts in over 100 countries.
