Rovio’s Girl Pirates Storm Berlinale

22.1.2015

Rovio's first YA series, Storm Sisters, will be featured at this year's Berlin Film Festival

Espoo, Finland— January 22nd, 2015— Rovio Entertainment’s first young adult book series, Storm Sisters, is ready for its close-up. The first book in the new pirate adventure series, Storm Sisters: The Sinking World, has been selected for the prestigious “Books at Berlinale.” The event, which is in its tenth year and held in conjunction with Berlin Film Festival and Frankfurt Book Fair, allows film producers to discover new books suitable for film adaptation. The Sinking World beat out approximately 130 submissions from over 25 countries to be part of the 11 finalists chosen to participate at the exclusive film industry event.

“It’s thrilling to see Storm Sisters garnering so much attention before it even hits the shelves! It’s just wonderful to see that Berlinale is as excited by a girls’ action pirate series as we are.” said Laura Nevanlinna, Rovio’s Publishing Director. “To be a part of Berlinale shows us the exciting potential our new young adult series has both as a novel and a possible film.”

Storm Sisters is a high action pirate adventure with a female twist. It tells the story of five girls, ages 11 to 17 sailing the seas in the 1780s, disguised as ‘girl pirates’ as they search for clues behind the mystery of their parents’ murders while trying to hide their real identities as members of a secret ancient guard. The Sinking World, written by Mintie Das, debut at Frankfurt Book Fair 2014 with much success and has already been secured by leading publishers in France, Hungary, Indonesia and Finland. The first book will hit shelves in late 2015/early 2016 and will be quickly followed up by the second title in the series, The Frozen Seas.
