Angry Birds Evolution, Battle Bay, Angry Birds 2 up for top honors at Pocket Gamer event – Cloud gaming subsidiary Hatch nominated for Best Technological Innovation

The year is drawing to a close, and you know what that means -- award season! Finalists have been announced for the mobile industry’s inaugural Mobile Games Awards, to be held in London on January 23 and organized by Pocket Gamer publisher Steel Media. We’re super proud to note that Rovio is leading the pack with four nominations, plus another for its cloud gaming subsidiary Hatch

Rovio is up for the Developer of the Year award, while new title Battle Bay is also contending for coveted Game of the Year honors. Angry Birds 2 meanwhile nabbed a nomination for Best Game Management and Live Ops. Rounding out the quartet of nominations, Angry Birds Evolution’s Tribute to Iron Maiden is in the running for Best Marketing Campaign.

Hatch pioneers cloud gaming, changes the game

Rovio’s standalone subsidiary Hatch, which spun out in 2016, has also been nominated for Best Technological Innovation. The pioneering cloud gaming service – currently out in beta in the Nordic Countries and Central Europe – offers rich, full-featured games on demand on mobile, without any need for downloading or updating. Hatch’s cloud-based streaming solution also allows users to play games together online in real time, and share gameplay moments as they happen.

Hatch has partnered with more than 100 developers and publishers to bring more than 250 premium games to its platform – including, on Rovio’s part, the original Angry Birds and Bad Piggies. As an industry-wide initiative, Hatch’s other content partners include Bandai Namco (PAC-MAN CE DX), Taito (Space Invaders, Dariusburst), Ubisoft (Rayman Fiesta Run) and ustwo Games (Monument Valley).

Rovio and Hatch are extremely proud of the teams that have worked so hard on these projects, and we are honored to be on a list alongside some of the biggest names in games and tech on the planet. We look forward to the awards!
