Rovio Game No. 52 is getting the biggest update ever since it first hatched back in 2009 -- with the help of a certain Finnish DJ and music producer whose 1999 hit “Sandstorm” you probably recognise if you’ve ever been to a professional sporting event, watched TV, used the Internet, or are alive.
Since fans of Darude’s “Sandstorm” didn’t quite muster the democratic forces necessary to change the national anthem of the United States, Rovio and Darude felt the next best thing instead would be to offer a fitting new anthem for the Angry flock. Behold: the all-new-and-birdified Mighty League Anthem (Sandstorm Remix)!
The wing-pumping tune soundtracks The Mighty League, the ultimate test of classical bird slinging acumen. Join directly from the main screen of your existing Angry Birds home screen and compete against average level scores by other players. You can play in three different levels everyday, drawn from existing episodes.
But there’s a catch! You’ll need to work your way through six leagues to make it to the top tier. Can’t handle the competition? Boom - relegation to a lower league! Brutal, but it’s a pig-eat-bird world out there. Do you have what it takes to make it to the top -- and stay there?
The best things in life are free, including, as of this update, the original Angry Birds. You’ll also get three free daily tickets to enter The Mighty League competition -- more daily entries require an in-app-purchase. However, you can still fly solo in non-league play and continue to master the hundreds of levels of the original forever, with no purchases necessary. So pick up that slingshot and get back to pig-popping basics!
