Supersized Slingshot in Seattle for Launch of Angry Birds Space

Rovio Entertainment, the Space Needle and T-Mobile USA celebrated the debut of Angry Birds Space by “launching” Red Bird into the great beyond. Events centered around the Space Needle as workers raised a 300-foot long slingshot with a 35-foot tall Red Bird affixed to the 605 foot-tall tower.  Photo credit: Rod Mar.

On March 22, Rovio Entertainment announced the availability of Angry Birds Space in app stores everywhere. The game is available for the Android and iOS platforms, as well as Mac and PC. In addition to the game launch, Angry Birds Space is also blasting off a line of merchandise, which will be available in Walmart stores around the US starting March 25.

To commemorate the launch, Rovio partnered with T-Mobile USA to create the largest Angry Birds Space art installation in the world – a 300 foot tall slingshot and Angry Bird mounted on the the iconic Seattle landmark, the Space Needle! Angry Birds fans were invited to the Space Needle to check out brand new Angry Birds Space gameplay, get Angry Birds Space giveaways, and enjoy Angry Birds Space cupcakes provided by Food Network’s Cupcake Wars finalists.

At Walmart, Angry Bird fans can get access to “Golden Eggsteroid” clues that unlock four bonus levels in the game. The special clues will be embedded in select limited-edition Angry Birds merchandise such as apparel, plush toys, mobile phones, snacks and more in more than 2,000 Walmart stores on March 25. Walmart is also offering its more than 12 million Facebook fans the first of four special clue starting today by visiting: walmarturl.com/angrybirdsspace. This is the first time Walmart has joined forces with a leader in entertainment media to provide its customers with an integrated online and in-store gaming experience.

In addition, T-Mobile is offering a special Angry Birds promotion in Walmart stores. With the purchase of any T-Mobile Android smartphone, such as the Samsung Exhibit II 4G, paired with a great value plan, such as the T-Mobile Monthly4G $30 Unlimited Web & Text plan, Walmart customers will gain access to an Angry Birds Space portal in the T-Mobile Mall where they can download the new game and find a hint to unlock a hidden golden eggsteroid level, as well as other exclusive extras.
