Senior Server Engineer

Welcome to Rovio!

We are looking for a Senior Server Engineer to join our newly-formed MMO Studio in London, UK.

Rovio’s London studio is the latest addition to the Rovio family and this is a great chance to be part of creating a culture and a game from a totally fresh start. Here in London, we have a fantastic creative and commercial brief and the enthusiastic backing of one of the undisputed global leaders of mobile F2P gaming. And true to Rovio’s Nordic heritage, we are committed to providing a real work/life balance and excellent opportunities for learning and personal development.

This is an extremely important role in the studio, working alongside the Technical Director to develop and deliver an MMO backend at huge scale. While we are more than happy to help diverse candidates make the step up, for this role we require a candidate with commercial experience of implementing, launching and running massively scalable, real-time, backend services. Game industry experience is definitely a plus, but it is not a requirement.

But more than anything, we want someone who wants to develop and grow as a big part of a great, diverse team and help create a fantastic culture that makes amazing mobile F2P games.

You'll fit in our flock if you want to:

  • Create a wonderful product with a great team
  • Achieve both creative and commercial success in mobile F2P
  • Devise a system that meets the technical, creative and commercial aims of the team
  • Make creating a fantastic culture a part of your job

You’ll need these skills:

  • Proficient in C++ and/or C# and low-level networking
  • Deployed services to AWS or Google Cloud Platform
  • Strong experience with DevOps and microservices
  • Developed services at scale with an emphasis on security and reliability
  • Fluent English

We’d love you to have these feathers in your cap:

  • Experience working on massively-multiplayer online games or similar
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker
  • Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience of TDD
  • Experience working on games for mobile platforms
  • Equal parts ambitious and humble
  • Open to feedback and eager to learn and apply new skills
  • Collaborative and consensus-driven approach

We want the best team, not necessarily the best individuals, so we’re looking for team members who want to work on problems worth solving. If you’re wondering if you should apply or not, we hope you do.

Send your application over now - we look forward to hearing from you!
